For the first time after its independence in 1991, Tajikistan has despatched its Ambassador to the United Kingdom. The Ambassador, Dr Erkin Kasymov was born in the historic city of Khojand, better known as the financial capital of the Republic Tajikistan. Being a philologist by profession, Erkin is well versed in Russian, Arabic, English, and Persian languages. Erkin began his career in politics in 1974 as the First Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affair’s. Over 30 year of engagement in politics and the social affairs of his native country, Dr Kasymov is well placed to represent Tajikistan in the United Kingdom. Before moving to the United Kingdom, Dr Kasymov was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Tajikistan in Austrian Republic, Swiss Confederation and Hungry. Click here for more details.

Farzaneh Khojandi in London

Poetry Translation Centre and the Department of Persian Language at SOAS, in association with the Iran Heritage Foundation organised “An Evening of Tajik and Persian poetry with Farzaneh Khojandi” in the Khalili Lecture Theatre at the School of Oriental and African Studies on Friday 17th October 2008. Farzaneh is one of the most outstanding contemporary poets of Tajikistan. Her poetry in Persian language has been well received by Persian speaking people world wide and particularly in the Persian speaking countries. This visit, thanks to Poetry Translation Centre, that produced remarkable English translation of her poetry, enabled English speaking audience to enjoy her poetry in English language and listen to her own eloquent style of poetry recitation. Payvand’s New Executive Officer

On 18th July 2008, members of the consultative meeting of the Supreme Advisory Board to the Office of the President, responsible for “Improving Social Relations and Public Augmentations” had a meeting with members of the Executive Board of Payvand (The International Forum for Persian Speaking People). Mr Fatahov, chief advisor to the office of President, conveyed the outcome of the consultative meetings and pointed out that Mr Isomiddin Salohiddin, after protracted studies, has been appointed as the Chief Executive Officer of Payvand Society. He pointed out government’s satisfaction with good services of late Prof. Manyazov and conveyed president’s message for the expansion of Payvand activities in the years ahead. Obituary - Prof. Manyazov

Prof. ‘Abd al-Qadir Manyazov, Executive Officer of the International Forum of Persian Speaking People (Payvand), passed away on 3rd May 2008. He was born on 10th August 1930 in the suburb of Kanbadam, some 45km north of Khojand. A noble personality with vast knowledge of Persian language, literature and Socio-political affairs of Tajikistan, Prof. Manyazov had a fruitful life serving Tajikistan and its people on various capacities. 17th Independance Day Celebrations - 2008

The 17th anniversary of Tajikistan’s Independence Day coincided with the 7th annual general meeting of the Payvand society. Main venues for Independence Day pageantry were the historical city of Panjkent and the mausoleum of Rudaki in Panjrood. The international conference dedicated to the works and achievements of Rudaki was held in Dushanbe. Main venues were the Academy of Science and the Institute of Oriental Studies. Out of 136 scholars expected to present papers in the conference, a handful could not attend for personal reasons or visa complications. 15th Independence Day Celebrations - 2006

Payvand UK, in close cooperation with the head office of the Payvand society in Dushanbe (Tajikistan), organized a tour in which participants had a chance to take part in the 15th anniversary of independence, 2700 years anniversary of the city of Kulab, 7th bi-annual general meeting of Payvand and celebrations of Aryan Contribution to World Civilization. 33rd Session of the UNESCO General Conference - 2005

Mr. Emomali Rahmon, President of the Republic of Tajikistan made an official visit to UNESCO on the 10th of October 2005. This was the 33rd session of the General Conference. Delegates from all branches of Payvand attended the conference to see the president and to discuss the implementation of new projects promoting the culture and development of the country.
